Zero Bond is a private members' club that redefines the membership experience. Our culinary team is led by renowned Chef Alfred Portale, a three-time James Beard Award winner. We're looking for a skilled Sous Chef to join our team and help us deliver exceptional dining experiences.

The Role

As a Sous Chef at Zero Bond, you'll work closely with our Executive Chef to manage daily kitchen activities, including staff supervision, menu preparation, and food quality control. You'll be responsible for leading the kitchen team in the Executive Chef's absence, providing guidance to junior staff members, and overseeing kitchen stock and ingredients.

Responsibilities
  • Lead kitchen team in the Executive Chef's absence
  • Provide guidance to junior kitchen staff members
  • Oversee and organize kitchen stock and ingredients
  • Ensure food quality and consistency
  • Monitor ordering and stocking
  • Train new kitchen employees
  • Manage food and product ordering
  • Supervise food preparation and presentation
  • Work with Executive Chef to maintain kitchen organization and staff training
  • Verify food storage units meet standards
  • Assist with menu creation
  • Coordinate with restaurant management team on supply ordering and budget
  • Ensure efficient operation of food production areas
  • Participate in analyzing cost and quality of food production
  • Train safe work habits and alert staff to unsafe areas
  • Implement and maintain company standards
  • Produce and maintain high food quality and controls
  • Assure highest health, sanitation, and safety standards
  • Guarantee menus and recipes are followed
  • Check food outlets and displays for quality and cleanliness
  • Assure timely setup and schedules cooks in proper uniform
  • Ensure teamwork and communication with front-of-house staff
  • Accommodate guest and member requests
  • Work with Events department on menus, food preparation, and food costs
  • Delegate daily tasks to staff
  • Share responsibility for proper storing procedures, food orders, food cost, equipment, sanitation, and hygiene
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Disposition
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years experience in a related position
  • Strong knowledge of NYS sanitation regulations
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal
  • Good work history and stability
  • Excellent cooking skills
  • Experience in training subordinates in large quantity food preparation and quality food operations
  • Ability to taste all foods to assure correct preparation
