Position Overview:

The Grants and Contracts Accountant is a vital role within the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation, responsible for applying advanced cost accounting principles to complex financial challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

The individual in this position will:
  • Oversee the planning, organization, and management of the accounting systems for various projects.
  • Make informed decisions regarding the financial treatment of transactions and propose solutions to intricate accounting issues.
  • Ensure compliance with established fiscal policies and evaluate the overall accuracy of financial operations.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Collaborating with project biologists to prepare and modify budgets, ensuring all expenses are accounted for.
  • Reviewing financial statements for accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Reconciling financial reports and addressing discrepancies.
  • Enhancing existing accounting systems to improve operational efficiency.
  • Providing professional guidance and support to team members and stakeholders.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • The ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and external partners.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant professional accounting experience.
  • Experience in managing grants and contracts, particularly in financial reporting and compliance.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with federal grants, procurement processes, and construction management is advantageous. A valid Washington State Driver's License is required, along with the ability to obtain necessary permits.
