The Cultural Interpreter/Program Manager plays a pivotal role in advancing the mission and objectives of the Cultural Resources Program. This position involves overseeing the Program's operations with the support of the Cultural Resources Program Staff, ensuring effective management and coordination of various projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Directs and supervises staff assignments to specific projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
- Conducts reviews of documents and provides fiscal oversight to maintain budgetary compliance.
- Prepares and approves performance evaluations for staff, fostering professional development and accountability.
- Collaborates with technical staff to integrate cultural knowledge and ancestral teachings into the Program's initiatives.
- Represents the Yakama Nation at public engagements, advocating for the preservation of cultural resources through informative presentations.
- Engages with various stakeholders, including private, state, federal, and tribal entities, to promote cultural interests and treaty rights.
Essential Qualifications:
- In-depth hereditary cultural knowledge, including ceremonial practices and oral traditions.
- Comprehensive understanding of Yakama cultural values, history, and governance.
- Familiarity with Yakama Nation laws and policies related to cultural resource management.
- Proficiency in the Yakama Language (Ichi Skin Sinwit) is highly desirable.
- Strong decision-making skills, applying cultural and archaeological data to resource management.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in Indian Law and Treaty Law.
- Public speaking proficiency and comfort in engaging diverse audiences.
- Valid Washington State Driver's License and ability to obtain necessary permits.
This role is crucial for the ongoing preservation and promotion of the Yakama Nation's cultural heritage, ensuring that traditions are upheld for future generations.
