Position Title: Bookkeeper IV

Department: Fisheries Resource Management (FRM)

Compensation: $16.53 per hour / Regular / Full-Time


The Bookkeeper IV plays a crucial role in managing intricate accounting and bookkeeping responsibilities for the Fisheries Resource Management Program. This position is accountable for overseeing financial accounting and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with program financial grants and contracts. Key responsibilities include maintaining communication with various vendors and governmental entities, while closely collaborating with project leaders, Central Accounting, Grants & Contracts, and subcontractors.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operate independently with minimal supervision, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  2. Regularly present work for review to ensure accuracy of records and timely reporting in accordance with regulations.
  3. Collaborate with Accounting Specialist I and project leaders to monitor grants, contracts, and agreements for compliance with project specifications and deliverables.
  4. Prepare a variety of financial statements ensuring completeness and internal accuracy, following uniform accounting classifications.
  5. Generate schedules and reports for various funding agencies.
  6. Address account discrepancies and prepare necessary corrections.
  7. Assist in refining existing accounting/bookkeeping processes to enhance procedures and ensure adherence to policies.
  8. Review financial documents to verify computational accuracy, handling complex tasks such as accounts, invoices, subcontracts, budgets, and proposals.
  9. Coordinate with Accounting Specialist, Lead Bookkeeper, project leads, and office staff to manage daily financial transactions including payroll, budgets, and purchases.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in personal computers and software applications (e.g., Excel, MS Word, Quicken, general office machines, 10-key calculator).
  • Familiarity with Federal, State, and private funding agencies.
  • Understanding of bookkeeping principles and concepts.
  • Knowledge of government fund accounting methods and techniques.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work independently.
  • Competence in classifying accounting transactions, reconciling accounts, and preparing monthly financial reports.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma is required.
  • One year of progressively responsible experience in clerical accounts maintenance, bookkeeping, or a closely related field.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Preference will be given to enrolled Yakama applicants, though all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field.
