About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Architectural Designer to join our team at the Rochester City School District. As an Architectural Designer, you will play a crucial role in planning and designing additions, rehabilitations, and renovations to our buildings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare preliminary sketches of functional space allocations and layouts of proposed modifications or additions and budget estimates;
  • Prepare from selected sketches, detailed working drawings, including symbols, floor plans, plot plans, elevations, details;
  • Check computations and drawings for accuracy and conformance to scale, codes, standards and regulations;
  • Recommend the selection of the plan and design for a project;
  • Discuss preliminary designs with supervisors, district administrators and modify as required;
  • Supervise lower level architectural and technical staff in drafting of preliminary and working drawings;
  • Estimate materials and labor costs for construction work;
  • Do product evaluation and prepare manual of specifications;
  • Inspect construction for conformance to plans and specifications;
  • Direct modifications of work to conform construction to plans and specifications;
  • Investigate architectural and engineering problems associated with older governmental buildings and determine feasibility of renovations or repairs;
  • Draw scaled details of building plans to clarify the design for the contractor;
  • Maintain currency of architectural files by indexing, recording, and updating of drawings;
  • Review plans and designs for buildings for conformance to all applicable codes and regulations including the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code;
  • Inspect buildings during construction and upon completion for conformance to the Building Code of New York State and S.E.D. Building Standards.
Requirements
  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Technology, or Construction Technology, and four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in drafting architectural or engineering plans for additions, for remodeling, or for rehabilitation of structures, or for new construction; OR,
  2. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, plus two (2) years of experience as described in (A).
