Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Design Technician to join our team at the Minnesota Department of Transportation. As a Design Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting our design team by performing technical computer-aided drafting and designing (CADD) tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Drafting: Perform routine technical CADD tasks in accordance with CADD data standards to meet deadlines.
  • Design Support: Assist the design leader in preparing plans in accordance with MnDOT standards to ensure timely delivery.
  • Geometric Design: Assist with performing basic/routine horizontal and vertical geometric designs with typical sections in accordance with MnDOT design standards.
  • Quantity Calculations: Assist in creating quantity and tabulation tables and charts and perform calculations to ensure they are filled in completely and correctly in accordance with design standards.
  • Plan Assembly: Assemble standard details and drawings to have complete plans for contract lettings.
  • Plan Review: Assist in assembling and cross-checking construction plans to provide an accurate and complete set of bidding documents.
  • Communication: Assist in preparing displays, handouts, and other documents for public meetings.
Requirements
  • Experience: One (1) year of experience utilizing computer-aided drafting and designing (CADD) or related activities.
  • Education: A Two-year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four-year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience.
