POSITION SUMMARY

Schoel is in search of a distinguished Principal Civil Engineer to enhance their Site Development Team. This role presents a unique opportunity to join a well-established engineering firm that prioritizes its people and is recognized for delivering high-profile projects. The Principal Engineer will oversee project management and lead a team of design professionals, ensuring effective coordination and execution of project workflows. Responsibilities include mentoring team members, conducting conceptual reviews, addressing challenges, and providing strategic leadership within the civil engineering department. The role also involves representing projects at public forums and nurturing relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities while expanding the client base.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Production and Technical Oversight

  • Manage all facets of civil engineering site development projects, ensuring the quality of designs and documentation.
  • Understand and articulate the client's vision for projects to the team effectively.
  • Delegate tasks related to research, information gathering, and compliance with municipal requirements.
  • Assist in the final review of construction document sets, including CAD and technical specifications.

2. Communication and Relationship Management

  • Respond promptly to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proactively address issues and escalate significant concerns to supervisors.
  • Lead and coordinate project meetings with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.

3. Project Management

  • Oversee multiple projects from initiation to completion, ensuring profitability and client satisfaction.
  • Anticipate potential challenges and communicate effectively with clients and team members.
  • Prepare proposals for new projects and manage their initiation in the financial system.
  • Review and approve monthly billing statements.

4. Leadership and Team Development

  • Encourage skill development among team members and mentor their professional growth.
  • Elevate significant issues to company leadership as necessary.
  • Facilitate training sessions for individuals and the company.
  • Assist team members with software and project-related challenges.

5. Business Development

  • Engage with organizations that support community and industry initiatives.
  • Expand professional networks within and outside the company.

6. Software Proficiency

  • Utilize project management software as required by clients and projects.
  • Accurately navigate and input information into core software systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required.
  • 8-15 years of experience in leading teams in Site Development.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams on complex projects.
  • Experience in business development, including proposal writing and budget management.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing client relationships and ensuring satisfaction.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills for effective project management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present to various stakeholders.
