Job Summary

Columbus House is seeking a Resident Support Specialist to join our team in providing shelter and housing services to individuals experiencing homelessness. The successful candidate will provide supervision, safety, organization, and program management support to shelter residents, on-site Recovery Support Specialists, and volunteers.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of trauma-informed service principles and be able to foster a safe and supportive environment for residents. They will also be able to network with the greater New Haven shelters and social service system to provide comprehensive support services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support shelter residents to ensure compliance with house rules and provide a safe and supportive environment.
  • Network with local shelters and social service agencies to provide comprehensive support services.
  • Collaborate with Columbus House residential staff to provide trauma-informed services and support.
  • Assist with intake, departures, and daily roster and programs.
  • Complete all required charting, logs, and incident reports.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with homeless populations and trauma-informed services preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Computer literacy and ability to learn new software.
