Job Title: Resident Support Specialist - Medical Respite

Columbus House, a leading provider of homeless services, is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Resident Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our residential staff, you will provide essential support to our residents, ensuring their safety, well-being, and successful transition to independent living.

Job Summary:

The Resident Support Specialist will work under the supervision of the Recovery House and Respite Manager to provide supervision, safety, organization, and program management support to up to 19 homeless clients in need of 24/7 shelter. This includes those in transitional housing and those in need while they recuperate from recent medical procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform hourly wellness rounds on the floor to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
  • Supervise up to 19 clients to ensure compliance with all house rules and provide guidance on recovery service plans.
  • Counsel clients to assist them with following their recovery service plans and provide support for their personal growth and independence.
  • Assist in ensuring security of the Shelter and maintain hourly logs.
  • Observe and document medication calls and help move client belongings as necessary.
  • Clean and disinfect rooms as clients leave, ensuring rooms are well-prepared for new admissions.
  • Collaborate with other agencies and social service providers to ensure a comprehensive support system for residents.
  • Attend agency and program meetings as scheduled and complete all required reports/incident logs.
  • Enter data into computer as directed and provide shift coverage to other RS staff during their break times.
  • Remain on-site to perform essential functions during emergency situations as designated by the Chief Executive Officer.
Requirements:
  • High School Graduate or equivalent; Demonstrated the ability to manage, motivate, and direct consumers.
  • Complete knowledge base of all aspects of the delivery of residential services for the homeless population.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a deadline-oriented mindset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other common desktop applications.
  • Able to effectively use the local network of substance abuse, mental health, and social services providers.
  • Familiar with mental health, substance abuse, and dual diagnosis issues and group dynamics.
  • Knowledge of local housing and vocational/entitlement programs.
  • Culturally competent; must possess the capacity to work within a team and foster teamwork.
  • General understanding of crisis intervention skills, confidentiality, boundaries, universal precautions.
  • Able to meet all documentation requirements.
  • Able to foster a Harm Reduction philosophy within the work environment.
  • Strong empathic skills coupled with a high degree of reliability and punctuality.
  • Valid drivers' license with a good driving record.
Working Conditions:

This is a full-time position, working Sunday-Thursday, 12am-8am, with a 40-hour workweek. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, providing support to residents in a residential setting.
