Salary Range:

Entry Level: $4,339 to $6,177 per month (SR 18, Step D to M)

Independent Worker: $4,690 to $6,682 per month (SR 20, Step D to M).

Position Overview:

Positions at this level engage in professional Information Technology tasks ranging from Entry/Trainee to Independent Worker levels.

Entry Level: Receives comprehensive training in the foundational principles, concepts, methodologies, and techniques essential to the Programmer series. Tasks vary from straightforward to intricate, designed to cultivate the employee for advancement to the Independent Worker level.

Independent Worker Level: Executes moderately complex professional duties in alignment with established policies, guidelines, and procedures. Responsibilities typically involve challenges of average difficulty and complexity, necessitating the independent application of technical expertise, skills, and sound judgment in the realm of Programming.

Specialty/Functional Area:

SYSTEM PROGRAMMER:

Under general supervision, responsible for maintaining and modifying operating systems. Typically engages with utility programs, macros, and other general-purpose operating applications. Duties encompass program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation. May involve working with new operating programs of moderate complexity and scope, while providing ongoing technical support to applications programmers.

Minimum Qualifications:

General Experience/Education: Four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative, professional, or analytical work experience that provided the competencies described below; or

Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor's degree; or

Any equivalent combination of experience and education.

Specialized Experience: Zero (0) to two (2) years of Information Technology (IT) work experience, including professional experience in the System Programming Specialty area; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Job Related Competencies Required: Depending on the level of interest and consideration, applicants must demonstrate experience and/or training reflecting a fundamental understanding of at least some of the following competencies: Knowledge of information technology principles, concepts, standards, policies, and procedures; computer hardware, software, languages, and procedures; personal computers (PCs), servers, mini and/or mainframe operating systems; basic mathematics; problem-solving methods and techniques; and report writing.

License: Some positions may require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
