Job Overview

St. Croix Health is seeking a dedicated Accounting Specialist to enhance our Finance department.

Position Summary:

This role involves supporting the month-end financial closing process, overseeing service agreements, managing non-patient accounts receivable, and providing essential support for audits and cost reporting. Additionally, the position is responsible for maintaining the organization's fixed asset system.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Month-End Closing Activities

  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries, ensuring accuracy and reliability in estimates.
  • Assist in reconciling balance sheet accounts.
  • Compile and post organizational statistics into the financial system.

2. Service Contract Management

  • Process standard purchase requests within the financial system.
  • Maintain a comprehensive spreadsheet of all service agreements.
  • Oversee the renewal process for contracts.

3. Non-Patient Accounts Receivable Management

  • Generate invoices and record payments received.
  • Reconcile non-patient accounts receivable with the general ledger.

4. Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Collect and analyze financial data from various departments.
  • Engage with department leaders to review financial performance reports.
  • Address accounting inquiries by researching and interpreting relevant data.
  • Record supplies utilized in specific departments into the inventory system.
  • Manage and reconcile supply transfers within the financial system.

5. Audit and Cost Report Support

  • Prepare necessary documentation for audit requests and cost reports.

6. Fixed Asset Management

  • Reconcile monthly fixed asset and Construction In Progress (CIP) accounts.
  • Prepare journal entries for asset reclassifications and capitalizations.
  • Understand the principles of capitalization versus expense.
  • Conduct year-end reconciliations for CIP and fixed assets by asset life and category.
  • Update the asset management system with annual changes and reconcile with the general ledger.
  • Perform annual audits of fixed assets.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred.

Experience:

  • At least three years of experience in an accounting or finance-related role.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in handling financial and numerical data.
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles (GAAP).
  • High ethical standards and integrity.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Proficient in accounting software and intermediate Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
