About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Philanthropic Advisor to join our team at Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service. As a key member of our Development team, you will play a critical role in building and managing a robust major gifts portfolio, working closely with our Director for Development and other stakeholders to drive revenue growth and support our mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan to identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, prospects, and stakeholders, ensuring exceptional stewardship and communication.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Gifts Team to upgrade existing donors into major donors and engage donors in the moves management process.
  • Actively solicit major and transformational gifts, including multi-year gifts and five-figure and six-figure gifts.
  • Lead and manage the Prospect Research Team, providing strategic guidance and direction to ensure effective donor research and portfolio management.
  • Develop and cultivate resources for major gift proposals, working closely with program colleagues and the Director for Development.
  • Travel to assigned regions to conduct donor visits and organize local events, as needed.
  • Support the Mobilization Team with congregational and faith community engagements, with potential for major gifts.
  • Write compelling major gift proposals, donor materials, and correspondence, ensuring a strong focus on fundraising for new privately funded programs.
  • Maintain and manage a stewardship calendar for reporting to donors in portfolios.
  • Design and apply a custom cultivation strategy to each donor and prospect in their pipeline.
  • Coordinate and attend internal strategy meetings to determine and define areas of greatest fundraising needs.
  • Provide oversight of all wealth screenings and profile creation for the CEO and Presidents Office.
  • Support the CEO in donor engagement, as needed.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field, with at least 7 years of experience in major gift development or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in leading and managing a team.
  • Respect for colleagues and a passion to collaborate.
  • Excellent oral and written abilities, with experience writing/assisting in the writing of compelling proposals.
  • Strong relationship management skills and experience with relationship-based fundraising.
  • Analytical proficiency and an ability to synthesize research, make connections across diverse issue and program areas, and develop logic frames and sensible timelines.
  • Ability to facilitate work with program staff to synthesize information for proposals and reports.
  • Commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work with complex, evolving issues and quickly develop expertise.
  • Knowledge of data management systems, with experience with Salesforce preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, and other Microsoft software is essential.
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and to 'manage-up'.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to navigate and collaborate with a diverse workforce.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% and work some evenings and weekends.
