SUMMARY:

The Friction Stir Welding Program Manager oversees the design, development, and production of Friction Stir Welding (FSW) techniques and assessment methodologies.

This role also entails managing the creation and evaluation of FSW applications to support organizational initiatives, determining suitable testing protocols to measure and validate FSW operations, and supervising technicians engaged in FSW applications.

The FSW Program Manager will spearhead business development initiatives, program creation, funding acquisition, and sales efforts for all FSW projects and clientele.

In addition, the FSW Program Manager will offer technical insights to the sales team, clients, and potential clients as part of a strategic approach to meet organizational sales and profitability objectives.


QUALIFICATIONS:

SALARY RANGE:
$90,000 - $115,000

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Oversee multiple equipment development and Friction Stir Welding projects.
2. Adjust various parameters in the Friction Stir Welding Process to enhance existing processes and innovate new ones.
3. Engage in long-term planning to coordinate multiple intricate development activities.
4. Collaborate with project engineers and technicians to strategize design projects and production schedules.
5. Analyze test data and assist in troubleshooting FSW processes.
6. Assess processes and procedures to ensure repeatability.
7. Maintain a documentation system that adheres to ISO and AS9100 standards.
8. Conduct documentation and technical report writing.
9. Manage daily workloads for assigned projects.
10. Engage in long-term planning and supervision to coordinate assigned project design activities.
11. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to plan and execute design projects.
12. Evaluate test data and assist in troubleshooting designs.
13. Work with the engineering team to assess 3D models and drawings.
14. Assist clients with system control, robotics, and integration software design.
15. Communicate client needs to Sales and Engineering teams.
16. Ensure proprietary and controlled information is adequately protected.
17. Control and manage schematics, drawings, and software for Friction Stir Welding equipment and processes with appropriate change control documentation.
18. Provide technical information regarding products, services, or equipment by addressing inquiries and sales questions.
19. Collaborate with clients and engineers to evaluate client needs and determine product specifications.
20. Work with clients and engineers to develop Statements of Work (SOW) for process development, demonstrations, and production activities.
21. Create technical materials for sales team training.
22. Assist in formulating strategies and techniques to achieve sales objectives.
23. Investigate potential clients and generate leads for the sales team.
24. Support the development of sales presentations and proposals.
25. Track, compile, interpret, and report sales figures.
26. Develop communications for clients and prospects.
27. Actively engage with clients, generate quotes, and participate in trade shows/meetings.
28. Contribute to business development strategy planning.
29. Attend inter-departmental meetings to generate new ideas, strategies, and opportunities for the organization while maintaining communication flow between departments.
30. Lead efforts to effectively present technical information at the appropriate level to target clients.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Software & Electrical Engineers, Project Engineer(s), Production Technician(s).

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering.

Advanced engineering degree highly preferred.

Minimum of 10 years' experience in friction stir welding engineering and processes.

Understanding of automated control systems required.

Solid understanding of metals, alloys, and mixed metallic/ceramic materials required.

Expertise in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and stress analysis required.

High-level understanding of numerical and finite element analysis methods required.

Firm knowledge of 3D modeling software and familiarity with manufacturing design records keeping required.

Experience managing projects required.

Writing and technical reporting/presentation experience required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:


Read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, newspapers, periodicals, journals, and manuals.

Able to develop, write, format, and communicate policy and procedure.


Write routine business and technical reports, correspondence, business letters, summaries, and reports in English using prescribed format, conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, and style.

Ability to speak effectively in English before groups such as clients or employees.

Ability to develop and maintain a professional working relationship with all team members.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks) and robotics software highly desired.

Proficient in electronic forms of communication including email, web searching, and data organization.

REASONING ABILITY:
Apply common sense understanding to follow instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Utilize mathematical skills to interpret mechanical and metallurgical findings, financial information, and prepare budgets.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Inside:
Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

Much of the work will be conducted in a machine shop environment with high noise levels, dust, and other hazards associated with machining work.

A job is considered "inside" if the worker spends approximately 75 percent or more of the time inside.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:


Must be able to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, communicate well with others, effectively engage with technicians and clients, and accept constructive feedback.

Must be able to frequently change activities and manage interruptions.
