The Electrical and Instrumentation Technician, Billings Refinery operates both independently and collaboratively to execute preventative, predictive, and routine maintenance activities. This role involves diagnosing problems, repairing malfunctions in production and facility equipment, and ensuring optimal equipment performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Delivering electrical and instrumentation assistance for control valves, transmitters, analytical devices, motors, motor starters, and various electrical and instrumentation apparatus
  • Overseeing and troubleshooting power systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) to safely meet plant production objectives
  • Installing, diagnosing, and maintaining electrical, pneumatic, and electronic instrumentation systems
  • Executing all tasks in alignment with our Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Management System, relevant government regulations, industry best practices, and all other Phillips 66 policies and/or regulations
Required Qualifications:
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must currently hold or be able to qualify for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card prior to employment start date
  • Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to:
    • Work overtime
    • Read at a level to understand written safety procedures, work instructions, work permits, and manuals
    • Climb up to 250 feet in height
    • Lift and transport materials (up to 65 pounds), bend, stoop, perform moderate manual labor, work in confined spaces, climb, and work at various heights
    • Maintain a clean-shaven face daily to ensure proper fit for respirators/face masks
    • Wear personal protective equipment, including but not limited to steel-toe shoes, ear protection, eye protection, hand protection, and fire-retardant clothing
    • Work outdoors, including in adverse weather conditions
    • Work in enclosed spaces, such as tanks and silos
    • Work around chemicals, including acids and bases that may be under high pressure and heat
    • Perform firefighting duties as necessary
    • Adhere to safe work practices and procedures
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or higher in Instrumentation, Electrical, or both
  • 5+ years of direct experience as an Instrument and Electrical (I&E) Technician in a refinery or petrochemical facility
  • 5+ years of experience troubleshooting power and control systems
  • Ability to read and comprehend manuals, schematics, drawings, graphs, charts, and diagrams
  • 5+ years of direct experience utilizing test equipment and procedures, national Electrical Code (NEC), applicable government and plant standards/regulations, and instrumentation terminology
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • 1+ years of direct experience maintaining gas chromatograph analyzers
