POSITION SUMMARY

The Overnight Youth Support Specialist is tasked with delivering counseling, initial case management, and overseeing the daily activities of children. Effective communication skills are essential for this role. The Specialist will report directly to the Lead Youth Care Specialist.

WORK SCHEDULE

This position requires overnight shifts from 11 PM to 7 AM.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct program orientation for youth upon their arrival and complete necessary intake procedures.
  2. Address the basic needs of youth, including meal preparation and supervision, clothing provision, hygiene products, and room assignments.
  3. Oversee clothing, shelter supplies, allowances, and recreational trips.
  4. Provide direct care services to youth, ensuring compliance with state and federal supervision ratios.
  5. Plan and implement educational and recreational activities, fostering meaningful experiences for youth.
  6. Deliver therapeutic care to youth with special needs and provide crisis intervention as needed.
  7. Utilize behavior management techniques and document youth behavior, sharing relevant information with the team.
  8. Establish a positive rapport with youth, serving as a role model to create a safe and nurturing environment.
  9. Ensure all documentation and progress notes are completed accurately to meet compliance standards.
  10. Assist in coordinating Physical Education instruction as required by regulatory standards.
  11. Model appropriate behavior, including respect for others and conflict resolution skills.
  12. Promote culturally sensitive care and actively work to reduce bias within the team and community.
  13. Maintain the facility in accordance with health and safety standards, reporting any maintenance needs.
  14. Transport residents to various appointments and activities as necessary.
  15. Adhere to all safety procedures and report any unsafe practices or conditions.
  16. Participate in case conferences and team meetings as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school diploma or GED with at least one year of experience in child welfare or a related field.
  2. Genuine respect for children and families from diverse backgrounds.
  3. Ability to demonstrate effective counseling techniques.
  4. Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole is preferred.
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  6. Strong time management skills and attention to detail.
  7. Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
  8. Valid driver's license and auto insurance are required.
  9. Must pass background checks and health assessments.
  10. CPR and basic first aid certification are required or must be obtained.
  11. Support a trauma-informed approach in interactions with youth.
  12. Collaborate effectively with staff, residents, and service providers.
  13. Ability to evaluate information and make sound judgments.
  14. Demonstrated commitment to USCRI's values, including respect for confidentiality and appreciation for diversity.
  15. Overnight work schedule from 11 PM to 7 AM.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  1. Completion of USCRI's Orientation and Training.
  2. Annual mandatory training as required.
  3. Additional training as identified by supervisors or program directors.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Manual dexterity and sensory acuity are required.
  2. Ability to perform repetitive motions and sustain periods of sitting and standing.
  3. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds may be required.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively in English; fluency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole is preferred.
  5. Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  6. Basic mathematical skills are necessary.
