Role Summary and Requirements

The Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for coordinating and delivering high-quality, patient-focused respiratory care in line with departmental requirements and the standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. As an essential member of the patient care team, the RRT performs various diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures while monitoring patients on both invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and document thorough patient assessments, including breath sounds, airway integrity, and cuff pressure. Perform diagnostic tests to determine the necessity and effectiveness of respiratory therapy.
  • Administer respiratory care treatments, such as oxygen therapy, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
  • Assist in the placement of artificial airways and manage mechanical ventilation processes.
  • Monitor patients for therapeutic responses and take appropriate actions in case of adverse reactions.
  • Support the transportation of patients requiring ventilatory assistance.
  • Respond to emergency situations, ensuring airway management and adequate ventilation during resuscitation efforts.
Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required within 90 days of employment.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is required within 30 days of employment.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation certification is required within 90 days of employment.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is required within 90 days of employment.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) credential is required.
