Psychiatric Care Assistant, PM

A Mental Health Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting mental health professionals within a crisis intervention facility. This position involves monitoring and documenting patient behaviors and activities, reporting findings to nursing staff and physicians as necessary. The specialist ensures patient comfort and care by engaging with individuals during therapeutic sessions and between medical interventions, preparing and serving meals, and supervising personal hygiene activities.
Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral Duties
- Deliver compassionate care to patients, prioritizing their comfort and safety.
- Assist patients with daily living tasks, including meal service and personal hygiene.
- Utilize de-escalation techniques to manage behavioral challenges.
- Identify and engage with patients showing signs of agitation to prevent crisis situations.
- Document patient activities and behaviors in accordance with established protocols.
- Provide meals following the designated schedule and guidelines.
- Conduct searches for prohibited items as per facility policies when necessary.
- Offer one-on-one support for patients with special needs as assigned.
- Collaborate with the treatment team to ensure effective patient care.
- Participate in leading activities and group sessions for patients.
- Assist in crisis intervention as required.
- Support the application of seclusion and restraint procedures when mandated by policy.
- Maintain cleanliness in patient areas and common facilities.
- Ensure proper sanitation of food preparation and storage areas.
- Oversee the organization of linens and clothing supplies.
- Conduct inventory of food and other supplies necessary for patient care.
- Safeguard the confidentiality of patient records.
- Adhere to policies ensuring safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
- Facilitate effective communication during shift changes.
- Perform additional duties as directed by supervisory staff.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
- Capability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Skill in balancing while transporting food trays or other items.
- Ability to bend, stoop, or squat without losing balance.
- Capability to reach overhead or forward without restriction.
- Fine motor skills necessary for handling keys and paperwork.
- Visual acuity in at least one eye and full range of head and neck motion.
High school diploma or GED is required.
