Key Responsibilities- Provide Social Interaction: Develop social skills and help consumers gain insight into their mental illness through individual and group interactions.
- Promote Recovery-Oriented Skills: Help consumers achieve goals created in their treatment plan by promoting recovery-oriented skills.
- Establish Linkages: Facilitate consumers' active use of community resources.
- Assist with Empowerment Skills: Help consumers develop empowerment skills through self-advocacy and advocate on their behalf when needed.
- Support Staff and Consumers: Assist staff and consumers in understanding recovery and share unique experiences leading toward rehabilitation.
- Role Model: Serve as a role model to help staff understand recovery and share unique experiences leading toward rehabilitation.
- Plan Recreational Activities: Work with recreation staff to plan and implement recreational activities for consumers.
- Conduct Community Meetings: Conduct community meetings with consumers in each assigned group home.
- Peer Support Groups: Conduct peer support groups for adult day treatment programs.
- Documentation: Document in a timely fashion per AltaPointe policy, ensuring legible and clear documentation.
- Supervision and Consultation: Seek supervision and consultation as needed.
- Continuous Improvement: Accept and employ suggestions for improvement, actively work to enhance skills, and attend staff meetings as required.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent: Required.
- Current or Former Mental Health Services Recipient: Must be a current or former recipient of mental health services for at least one year.
- Valid Driver's License: A valid, verifiable driver's license, good driving record, reliable transportation, and verifiable vehicle liability insurance are required.
- Peer Specialist Training: Ability to attend out-of-town Peer Specialist training for certification.
- Knowledge of the Alabama Public Mental Health System: Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of the Alabama public mental health system.
- Adult Specific Competencies: Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in the adult population, cultural diversity, behavior management, crisis intervention, and psychiatric rehabilitation principles, as well as educational methods appropriate to adults with severe and persistent psychiatric disorders.
