Job Title: Chief Legal Counsel & Professional Services Administrator

This position is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the Montana Department of Transportation's (MDT) Professional Services Division, including Legal Services, Audit Services, and the Office of Civil Rights.

The successful candidate will ensure timely and appropriate legal support for the agency, conduct advanced legal research and analysis, and provide legal direction and advice to the Director and Executive Team for effective administration of department programs.

This position reports to the Deputy Director and requires a strong understanding of professional standards, legal research, and staff management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Professional Services Division, including Legal Services, Audit Services, and the Office of Civil Rights.
  • Provide timely and appropriate legal support for the agency.
  • Conduct advanced legal research and analysis.

  • Manage the staff, budget, and operations of the MDT Professional Services Division.
