Geography and Geoinformation Science Faculty Position

About the Opportunity:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography and Geoinformation Science. The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate courses, conduct research in areas such as cartography and geovisualization, geospatial data science, and quantitative remote sensing and digital image processing.
Responsibilities:
- Develop an externally funded research portfolio that will advance the mission of the Department of Geography and Geoinformation Science.
- Advise graduate students at both the master's and Ph.D. levels.
- Provide core support to our successful and growing programs in Geography and Geoinformation Science.
- Teach core and advanced courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Develop new courses as needed in areas of specialization.
Requirements:
- Terminal degree in a related field; Ph.D. in geography, geoinformatics, data science, or a closely related field is required by time of appointment.
- Ability to develop a significant and active research agenda in a field of specialization.
- Demonstrated record of publishing peer-reviewed scholarship.
- Ability to teach courses offered by the department and a field of specialization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching.
- Potential of seeking/securing external research grants.
