About the Position:

The Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for Geospatial Intelligence (CGEOINT) within the Department of Geography and Geoinformation Science is expected to possess expertise in the design and execution of extensive urban simulations or "digital twins". This role is part of a USDA-funded initiative involving a collaborative team conducting research across multiple institutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate on the creation of a scalable urban simulation focused on human mobility and animal movement;
  • Manage the application of the simulation to various challenges related to infectious diseases;
  • Develop and maintain a repository for simulation code and data sources;
  • Publish and share research findings in prestigious journals and conferences;
  • Supervise research assistants and interns while collaborating with fellow researchers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, data science, modeling and simulation, or closely related disciplines);
  • Proficiency in programming;
  • Established publication record;
  • Strong teamwork and communication abilities;
  • Comprehensive knowledge within the discipline and in-depth understanding of specific research areas;
  • Familiarity with research methodologies;
  • Skills in data analysis and interpretation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in agent-based modeling or related social/ecological simulations;
  • Programming skills in Python or Java;
  • Background in data mining;
  • Knowledge of data management and databases;
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary research teams;
  • Proficiency in geospatial analytics.
