Job Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Story Development: Generate, research, and cultivate investigative story concepts that resonate with the Hispanic local community, identifying key issues often overlooked by mainstream media.
  • Research and Investigation: Execute comprehensive research, including document analysis, source interviews, and the application of investigative methodologies to gather pertinent information. This may entail undercover operations or pursuing leads with tenacity and ingenuity.
  • Reporting and Writing: Produce, write, and edit investigative news pieces and impactful consumer stories, focusing on local relevance. Craft articulate, concise, and compelling investigative narratives in Spanish, ensuring thorough organization, fact-checking, and impartiality. Prepare scripts for broadcast and articles for the station's digital platforms.
  • On-Air Presentation: Deliver investigative reports on-air with clarity and engagement, encompassing live reporting, studio segments, or field coverage.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with news producers and team members to guarantee accuracy, impact, and adherence to the station's editorial standards.
  • Ethical Standards: Maintain the highest ethical standards in reporting, ensuring fairness, accuracy, and sensitivity, particularly when addressing vulnerable populations or delicate subjects.
  • Audience Engagement: Connect with the Hispanic local audience through community events and public appearances, fostering trust and rapport. Address viewer feedback and inquiries related to investigative stories.
  • Legal Considerations: Partner with legal teams to ensure compliance with legal standards in investigative reporting, including defamation laws, privacy issues, and copyright regulations.
  • Technology and Tools: Employ advanced technology and investigative tools, including data analysis software, to enhance reporting capabilities. Stay informed about the latest developments in investigative journalism tools and techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Education: BA or BS in Journalism or a related field. A master's degree or specialized training in investigative journalism is advantageous.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years in investigative reporting, ideally with a focus on Hispanic or Spanish-language media.
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in Spanish is mandatory, with strong verbal and written communication abilities. Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills are highly preferred.
  • Research Skills: Strong research capabilities with the aptitude to analyze data, conduct interviews, and verify information from diverse sources.
  • Storytelling: Exceptional storytelling skills, with a nuanced understanding of how to engage the Hispanic audience through culturally relevant content.
  • Technical Skills: At least 2 years of experience in reporting, shooting, writing, and video editing. Proficient in video editing software, content management systems, and other newsroom technologies.
  • Legal Knowledge: Basic knowledge of media law and the legal ramifications of investigative reporting.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, and respond to emergency news coverage as necessary.
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English (speak, read, and write) is essential.
  • Ability to provide a portfolio of work examples is preferred.
  • Acceptance of NBCUniversal's Dispute Resolution Program is required.
