Position Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for interpreting customer-supplied part drawings, considering geometric dimensioning and tolerances to plan effective inspection layouts using Touch Probe and Video Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs). This role involves creating both automated and manual measurement programs as needed on contact and non-contact CMMs, as well as generating data reports of measurement outcomes for customer and engineering analysis.

Measurements may be required for various inspections, including Full 1st Article (ISIR), PPAPs, Highlighted Dimensions, or Process Capability Studies. The role also includes scanning and digitizing parts, along with profile analysis to CAD and other file formats. Interaction with customer representatives (Engineers) will be necessary to establish accurate measurement plans and to review and interpret results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program and operate CMMs to measure the surface areas of three-dimensional objects during the manufacturing inspection phase.
  • Develop part inspection programs and create part fixturing methods for CMMs and other inspection tools, including vision inspection equipment.
  • Read and interpret part drawings and job orders to ensure compliance with product specifications, including dimensions and tolerances.
  • Translate geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T) callouts from customer drawings into inspection programs to guarantee that manufactured products meet dimensional specifications.
  • Utilize CMMs and other automated inspection equipment, along with precision measuring instruments, to measure part dimensions as specified.
  • Assist in statistical studies, including gage R&Rs and process capability studies.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process and product quality, focusing on CMM inspection methods.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience operating and programming Coordinate Measuring Machines.
  • Experience in part layout is essential.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting part drawings (blueprints).
  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Technical school degree or equivalent experience in a quality or manufacturing discipline involving CMMs.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach.
  • Competence in maintaining accurate records and certifications.
  • Proficient computer skills, including database management.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective communication skills and a professional demeanor are required for customer interactions.
