Histology Technician II

As a Histology Technician II at Texas Health Resources, you will play a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in our community. You will be responsible for specimen integrity, specimen processing, microtomy, preparation of slides and stains, and evaluating stains. You will also follow established protocols for esoteric tests and extradepartmental consults.
Responsibilities
• Specimen Integrity: Ensure the integrity of specimens received from various sources, including patient samples and external laboratories.
• Specimen Processing: Process specimens according to established protocols, including fixation, embedding, and sectioning.
• Microtomy: Prepare tissue sections for staining and examination using microtomy techniques.
• Preparation of Slides and Stains: Prepare slides and stains according to established protocols, including hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining.
• Evaluate Stains: Evaluate stained slides for quality and accuracy, ensuring that they meet established standards.
• Reference Lab: Follow established protocols for esoteric tests, including sending and receiving specimens and results.
• Follows established protocols for extradepartmental consults, including communicating with external laboratories and healthcare providers.
Requirements
• High School or equivalent is required upon hire.
• Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Science, or Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science is preferred. New graduates are welcome to apply.
• HT(ASCP) - Histotechnician or a HTL(ASCP) - Histotechnologist is required within 90 days of hire.
