Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Director of Fund Development to lead our fundraising efforts and drive the philanthropy of Volunteers of America Mid-States. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, a proven track record of successful fundraising, and a passion for our organization's mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute annual and long-term fundraising plans aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, and foundations to secure financial support.
  • Lead efforts to solicit major gifts from high-net-worth individuals and develop personalized cultivation and stewardship plans for top donors.
  • Plan and execute fundraising events and special campaigns to engage current and prospective donors and raise funds for the organization.
  • Manage and mentor a team of fundraising professionals, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to ensure their success.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate fundraising efforts with overall organizational strategies.
  • Develop and manage the fundraising budget, reviewing revenue and expenses and acting accordingly.
  • Oversee the donor database, ensuring accurate and up-to-date donor records and utilizing data to inform fundraising strategies and decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant fundraising regulations, including IRS guidelines for nonprofit organizations and ethical fundraising practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; certification in fundraising or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, with a proven track record of success in major gifts along with fundraising events and campaign management.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience managing and mentoring a team of fundraising professionals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, board members, and staff at all levels.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and implement innovative fundraising strategies.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and execute on follow-up.
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices, including ethical standards, donor lifecycle, and mission-based fundraising.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; experience with Raisers Edge NXT systems preferred.
