Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Ecologist to serve as a Field Lead in our Natural Resource group. As a Field Lead, you will be responsible for performing field work, including species surveys, habitat assessments, wetland delineations, compliance monitoring, inspections, and technical support services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support data collection efforts for wetland delineations and wetland functional/conditional assessments under applicable agency regulations.
  • Conduct vegetation inventories and monitoring.
  • Complete wildlife surveys and habitat assessments for listed species (migratory birds and threatened/endangered species).
  • Lead and work alongside field teams.
  • Record, enter, organize, and analyze ecological/environmental data.
  • Prepare report documentation and supporting materials for client and regulatory agency submittals.
  • Complete tasks with consideration for your own and the team's safety.
  • Travel to projects to perform field assessments throughout Stantec's service area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in wildlife biology, rangeland ecology, environmental science, forestry, botany, soil science, or a closely related natural resource field.
  • Three or more years of related experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient MS Office skills.
  • Comprehensive note-taking skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high work ethic.
  • Proven field skills including the ability to navigate in difficult terrain using aerial maps.
  • Familiarity with GPS data collection within a broad range of ecological communities and environmental regulatory frameworks.
  • Consulting experience is preferred.
  • Possesses a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Willing and able to travel and conduct fieldwork in remote areas (50-75% of the time), including overnight travel.
  • Able to lift and move items and equipment.
  • Certified Wetland Delineator is a plus.
