Position Overview:

We are in search of a highly proficient and driven Senior Open Source Security Manager to guide our team of engineers in the development and oversight of open source initiatives aimed at mitigating risks within the software supply chain for our clientele. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in cybersecurity, software supply chain risk management, and familiarity with cloud-native architecture. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the provision of scalable, efficient, and secure solutions that satisfy both commercial and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Leadership:
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of engineers engaged in open source initiatives.
  • Promote a collaborative and inclusive team culture that fosters innovation and continuous learning.
  • Formulate strategies for building and retaining a high-performing team, including attracting and retaining top talent in the field.
  • Establish clear objectives and expectations for the team, conducting regular performance assessments.
  1. Project Oversight:
  • Manage the planning, execution, and delivery of open source projects, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and client needs.
  • Handle multiple open source projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery, even under tight deadlines.
  • Exhibit the ability to perform under pressure while maintaining performance standards and flexibility to meet project demands.
  • Collaborate with product management, security, and other stakeholders to define project requirements and success metrics.
  • Utilize collaboration tools for effective project management and communication.
  • Implement agile development methodologies to ensure efficient team operations.
  1. Contractor Coordination:
  • Identify the necessity for contractor involvement and lead the recruitment process for external contractors.
  • Review Statements of Work (SOWs) and establish clear exit criteria for completed projects, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
  • Manage relationships with contractors, providing guidance and oversight to ensure alignment with project goals and company standards.
  1. Technical Proficiency:
  • Champion the adoption of best practices in cybersecurity and software supply chain risk management within the team.
  • Provide expertise in vulnerability management, threat intelligence, and adherence to security standards.
  • Guide the team in applying cloud-native architecture and design patterns to create scalable systems.
  • Lead initiatives to integrate solutions in regulated environments, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with security teams to integrate solutions with existing security frameworks.
  • Highlight cloud security expertise, including experience with cloud security controls and compliance with industry standards.
  1. Open Source Engagement:
  • Encourage and facilitate team contributions to open source projects, fostering a culture of community involvement.
  • Build relationships with open source communities and contribute to projects, enhancing the team's visibility and reputation in the sector.
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks associated with open source software utilized by clients.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends and advancements in open source software, cybersecurity, and supply chain risk management.
  1. Technical Skills and Tools:
  • Ensure the team effectively employs containerization technologies for deployment and management.
  • Promote the adoption of DevOps practices and tools to facilitate seamless integration and continuous delivery of systems.
  • Oversee the use of version control systems to manage codebases and track changes.
  • Emphasize experience with continuous integration and delivery pipelines.
  1. Collaboration and Communication:
  • Establish strong relationships with internal teams and external partners to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate strong presentation and public speaking skills to effectively convey project updates, risks, and opportunities.
  • Utilize technical writing and documentation skills to ensure the team's work is well-documented and easily accessible.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing teams.
  • Strong domain expertise in cybersecurity and software supply chain risk management.
  • Specific experience in contributing to or maintaining open source projects.
  • Experience with cloud-native architecture.
  • Proven track record of building and deploying solutions in regulated environments.
  • Proficiency in containerization technologies.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of version control systems.
