Position Overview:
The Menaul branch of Presbyterian Healthcare Services is in search of a dedicated Emergency Medical Technician.


This role involves delivering advanced patient care within the parameters of State licensure and the approved Emergency Medical Technician Scope of Practice in a high-pressure environment.

Responds to emergency medical calls and administers care to patients experiencing injury or illness.

Qualifications Required:
Preferred experience in EMS Dispatch. A minimum of 2 years in emergency department patient care, including triage experience, is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in any field and 2 years of direct patient care experience are required. Current New Mexico Emergency Medical Technician licensure is mandatory. National EMD licensure is preferred.

Current certifications in CPR and ACLS are required. Typing ability of 20 wpm is preferred. Proficiency in reading, writing, and following verbal and written instructions is essential.


Key Responsibilities for Emergency Medical Technicians in the Emergency Department:
Deliver care to emergency department patients as outlined in the Emergency Medical Technician Scope of Practice policy.

Possession of a current license issued by the State of New Mexico Emergency Medical Service Bureau as an Emergency Medical Technician is required. Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is mandatory, along with ACLS & PALS certifications. Proficiency in reading, writing, and following verbal and written instructions is essential. Maintain annual departmental competencies and comply with Employee Health Requirements.

Responsibilities Include:
*Engaging in patient care provision based on the setting and patient care needs. Ensure a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and their families. Organize care in a manner that enhances the overall quality of the team.

*Deliver care within the State Approved Scope of Practice and established competencies.

*Maintain and ensure the cleanliness of emergency supplies and equipment.

*Ensure a tidy work environment, which may involve duties typically assigned to housekeeping, such as emptying trash, mopping floors, and cleaning surfaces.

*Monitor patients and maintain records using patient monitoring systems and electronic health records. Document and maintain accurate medical records to initiate billing for each patient treated. Ensure proper functioning systems and report malfunctions immediately according to procedures.

*Document and report any significant changes to the Nurse, Charge Nurse, and Provider. Provide patient reports to other staff as necessary.

*Process necessary paperwork/information for patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.

*Participate in unit-based Shared Governance activities and assist with implementing changes as recommended by councils.

*Perform additional functions as directed.

*May observe patient cardiac monitors and maintain records. Document and report any significant rate or rhythm changes, especially life-threatening dysrhythmias. Notify the Registered Nurse immediately of any critical arrhythmias and document findings.

*May administer medications as per the Emergency Medical Technician Scope of Practice in the Emergency Department, adhering to all policies and protocols.

*May serve as the first clinical contact in the Emergency Department.

*May perform triage with appropriate ESI Severity Index training.

*May receive urgent and non-urgent medical calls from internal and external sources. Ensure equitable distribution of incoming patients by team in the Emergency Department. Maintain accurate and legible dispatch records for the department.

*Coordinate transfer arrangements with the appropriate EMS transport agency for patients requiring transfer from the Emergency Department. Direct responding ambulance crews to the correct area of the Emergency Department for patient transfer.

*Foster positive communication and collaboration with the EMS service line and other internal and external stakeholders.

*Encourage a workplace environment that is friendly and respectful.

*Perform other duties as assigned.
