The EMT-S is tasked with supporting the clinical team in delivering care to patients across all age groups, from infants to seniors.

The primary objective of the EMT-S is to provide expert care for patients in accordance with established protocols and standards.

To deliver suitable care, EMT-S professionals are required to conduct initial triage evaluations, oversee the waiting area to prioritize patients based on their clinical needs, and manage patient flow within the facility to ensure optimal efficiency while offering prompt, courteous, and high-quality patient care.

In executing the responsibilities outlined, the EMT-S will be accountable for routine patient care tasks, stabilizing and/or preparing patients for transfer to definitive care, documenting patient care activities, and providing continuous patient monitoring.

Under Medical Direction, the EMT-S will administer intravenous and oral medications in line with the relevant New Mexico Scope of Practice Guidelines and Duke City Urgent Care (DCUC) protocols, ensuring compliance with applicable policies and procedures.

The EMT-S also plays a crucial role in assisting physicians and staff in coordinating patient care, acting as the primary liaison among patients, staff, and healthcare providers.


Key Responsibilities:
- Required to be available for on-call shifts as necessary, demonstrating adaptability and responsiveness to address any urgent issues or escalations promptly.

- Responsible for ensuring proper management and observation of all patients within the facility.

- Identify and evaluate patients presenting with clinical symptoms that necessitate immediate intervention and promptly initiate appropriate treatment.

- Maintain cleanliness of patient care rooms, equipment, and instruments, and report any equipment malfunctions.

- Assist healthcare providers with complex treatment procedures; perform treatment procedures as permitted by policies and procedures.

- Under medical supervision, administer oral and intravenous medications in accordance with the New Mexico State Scope of Practice while documenting any clinical findings.

- Perform and interpret 12-lead EKGs and immediately report significant findings to attending providers.

- Assist in delivering all components of advanced life support.

- Collaborate with attending providers to obtain and review outpatient laboratory and imaging results, ensuring that results are communicated to the patient or caregiver.

- Educate patients and families about diagnostic procedures, medications, and nutritional maintenance of health and wellness.

- Complete wound care processes according to medical protocols under the direct supervision of an EMT-S or attending provider.

- Adhere to patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.

- Demonstrate a proactive approach to patient and staff safety by seeking opportunities to enhance safety through questioning current policies and processes.

- Transport patients, collect, label, and transport specimens, equipment, and supplies.

- Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may pose undue risk to patients.

- Assist with administrative support related to equipment maintenance, calibration, and statistical data compilation.

Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Emergency Medicine required; Bachelor's degree preferred.

- Minimum of 2 years of directly related experience.

- Advanced computer proficiency and experience with electronic medical records (EMRs) and Microsoft Office products.

- Current New Mexico Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic License.

- CPR Certification for Healthcare/BLS Providers for Professional Rescuers.

- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
