Job Overview

This role is responsible for overseeing the financial reporting activities of Empire State, ensuring accurate and timely submission of reports. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, experience in public or private accounting, and leadership skills.

  • Oversee the work of Accounting and Accounts Payable staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Supervise all accounting data entry activities, including approval of accounts payable transactions and review of financial documents.
  • Prepare and review annual filing of 1099s and schedules for ESD's annual Federal Single Audit.
  • Assist in preparation of quarterly and year-end general ledger analyses, generating related journal entries as needed.
  • Supervise the reconciliation of various bank accounts and prepare audit schedules, footnotes, and relevant work papers for quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP and GASB accounting standards.
  • Effectively communicate with department staff and all levels of management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 6+ years of direct public or private accounting experience, government experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience managing a team.
  • Strong knowledge of accounts payable principles, public auditing policies, and general accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in general accounting software, such as PeopleSoft.
