Job Overview:

L3 Technologies is seeking a seasoned technical expert to become a part of the Managed Operational Support Services (OSS) team as a Linux Systems Administrator. This role involves providing support to software engineering teams during the development of new OSS systems by provisioning and managing virtual environments and configuring the Linux-based Red Hat Operating System. The Systems Administrator will also be responsible for monitoring and optimizing system hardware performance. This position ensures that system hardware, software, and associated procedures comply with the system's design and architecture. The individual will manage user account access and develop configuration procedures to support production builds. Additionally, this role includes assisting program teams with technical analysis and supporting the testing and deployment of new patches. Participation in programs focuses on facilitating the transition from system development to operational readiness throughout the program's lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts software installations and upgrades for RedHat and Windows operating systems and layered software packages, maintaining compliance with established policies and service level agreements.
  • Directs proactive and reactive systems administration activities to ensure the availability, integrity, and reliability of both networked and stand-alone systems. Manages assigned enterprise systems such as data storage administration and server virtualization to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Troubleshoots hardware, software, and wide area network issues related to assigned enterprise systems.
  • Collaborates with server and operating system vendors to resolve issues, arrange services, and obtain support. Develops schedules for the installation and monitoring of local network and stand-alone information resources.
  • Installs and supports internal development software and applications.
  • Monitors and tunes systems to achieve peak performance levels, ensuring data integrity through the evaluation and management of appropriate software and hardware solutions.
  • Implements a schedule for system backups and database archiving operations to ensure data/media recoverability.
  • Conducts routine audits of server hardware and software for compliance with established standards and configuration guidelines. Possesses knowledge of networking associated with LAN-based servers and workstations.
  • This position requires onsite presence due to secure network access requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain FAA Public Trust clearance.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, IT Security, or a related field, with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. A graduate degree with a minimum of 2 years of related experience is also acceptable. Alternatively, a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in network systems administration, specifically in the specification, selection, evaluation, testing, deployment, and operation of Linux, CentOS, and Windows Operating Systems and servers.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in configuring and maintaining CentOS-based systems, including enterprise-level upgrades.
  • Proficiency in configuring and managing Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with cloud-based systems and architectures.
  • Familiarity with RPM builds for software packages.
  • Experience in complex infrastructure design, including planning interactions of multiple applications.
  • Skills in scripting for automation of tools.
  • Experience in managing data center lab environments, including power requirements and system hardening.
  • Knowledge of Python scripting.
  • Familiarity with applications such as Splunk, RHEL, Zabbix, MySQL, VMWare ESXi, Veritas, and Pacemaker HA Clustering.
