This role is focused on hiring an Electrical Engineer to act as a consultant within the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA).
Position Overview:
The Electrical Engineer will be part of the Test and Energization (TETC) division, specifically within the Commissioning and Testing (TET) group under the Transmission Services (T) sector of BPA. This position is essential for providing on-site engineering and project support for substation construction initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the mentorship of a commissioning engineer or technician, the selected candidate will conduct testing on substation apparatus, including power circuit breakers, transformers, and static capacitors.
This testing encompasses verification of CT/PT ratios, CT polarity, transformer impedance, power factor for transformers, timing of power circuit breakers, and insulation voltage withstand assessments.
With guidance from the BPA lead engineer, the engineer will also perform testing on Substation Control systems, including Protective Relaying, SCADA, microwave radio, Transfer Trip, and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).
Support the design, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of electrical instruments and systems by checking wiring and connections in BPA facilities.
Utilize computer-assisted engineering and design software to execute engineering tasks under the direction of a BPA Lead Engineer.
Gather and compile information for the BPA Lead Engineer to develop electrical schematics, reports, and calculations that support engineering solutions for electrical systems.
Assist in coordinating construction, installation, maintenance, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer expectations.
Conduct detailed calculations to establish construction and installation standards and specifications with the approval of the BPA Lead Engineer.
Participate in the inspection of completed installations and verify operations to ensure adherence to design and equipment specifications, as well as operational and safety standards.
Provide troubleshooting and on-site technical support to field personnel as directed.
Collaborate with BPA design staff during the engineering phase to understand design philosophy and provide field insights.
Apply a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and practices across various assignments and related fields.
Facilitate on-site projects, including outage requests and material verification, under the supervision of the BPA manager or lead engineer.
Maintain organized documentation and filing systems in compliance with regulatory requirements, ensuring that all official records are accurately maintained for auditing purposes.
Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is mandatory.
Experience: A minimum of 6 months of experience in electrical engineering concepts and practices relevant to components and facilities on a regional transmission system is required.
Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Power Systems Engineering to develop design standards through practical training.
Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and one-lines to understand protection and control systems.
