Position Overview: Special Education Teacher

Reports To: Director of Academics

Location: North Hampton, New Hampshire

Compensation: Starting at $50K+, commensurate with experience, competitive with public education salaries.

Employment Type: Full-time, Day Shift, Monday through Friday, with Comprehensive Benefits

The Special Education Teacher will collaborate with the entire educational team to ensure the safety and welfare of students as they engage in the academic curriculum. The educator will lead classes during the 8 am – 4:00 pm work schedule from Monday to Friday. The academic program operates year-round, with the teacher adhering to the school calendar, excluding designated vacation periods. Responsibilities include developing lesson plans tailored to meet students' IEP goals and core content areas, alongside other assigned subjects. The teacher will create project-based assignments and employ diverse assessment techniques and engagement strategies to enhance student learning. Additionally, they will evaluate students' progress and capabilities throughout the academic year, providing necessary progress reports and quarter grades.

Academic Services:

At Mount Prospect Academy, academic instruction and practical experiences are fundamental components of our holistic treatment approach. We specialize in supporting youth who have faced challenges in traditional educational settings.

Our academic programs provide full school days, with teachers delivering competency-based instruction and employing innovative strategies to assist non-traditional learners. We offer individualized academic support services, ensuring students have full access to the general education curriculum as per New Hampshire's educational standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the academic and treatment teams to educate and supervise students during school hours.
  • Deliver instruction, grading, and assessment for assigned courses in alignment with the school curriculum.
  • Implement and manage Individual Education Plan (IEP) requirements, including direct support and collaboration as needed.
  • Maintain and submit necessary documentation, including lesson plans, progress reports, and IEP evaluations.
  • Monitor and implement behavioral interventions within the classroom environment.
  • Oversee the maintenance and procurement of academic materials and supplies relevant to instructional areas.
  • Engage in ongoing curriculum development, professional growth, and assessment activities as required.
  • Participate in mandated professional training sessions offered by the program.
  • Supervise teaching assistants in coordination with the Dean of Students and Academic Director.
  • Assist in organizing school field trips.
  • Attend faculty meetings as necessary.
  • Uphold student confidentiality and communicate pertinent information to supervisors.
  • Follow established communication channels.
  • Understand the administrative structure and philosophy of Mount Prospect Academy.
  • Represent Mount Prospect Academy positively to the community, students' families, and external agencies.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Current certification by NHDOE in Special Education, or enrollment in an approved certification program.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a relevant academic field (English, Math, Science, etc.). Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with students diagnosed with emotional disturbances, attention issues, or mental health conditions.
  • Preferred: NH DOE certification/teaching license. Two or more years of experience in general or special education instruction, particularly at the middle and high school levels.
  • Note: Support for obtaining certification and developing a professional development plan will be provided.
  • Preferred: Two years of experience working with children/youth in various capacities (e.g., camp counselor, coach, babysitter, parent).
