The Special Education Teacher will collaborate with the entire educational team to ensure the safety and well-being of students as they engage in the academic curriculum. The educator will lead classes during the designated work hours of 8 am – 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The academic program operates year-round, with the teacher adhering to the school calendar, excluding designated vacation periods. Responsibilities include developing lesson plans tailored to address students' needs as outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and core subject areas, alongside other assigned topics. The teacher will create project-based assignments and employ various assessment methods and engagement strategies to enhance student learning. Additionally, they will monitor and evaluate students' progress and capabilities throughout the academic year, providing regular updates and quarterly grades.

Academic Services:

Our academic programs provide full school days, with teachers delivering competency-based instruction and utilizing innovative strategies to facilitate learning for non-traditional students. We offer tailored academic support services to meet individual learning needs, ensuring students have full access to the general education curriculum as per New Hampshire standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the academic and treatment teams to educate and supervise students during school hours.
  • Deliver instruction, assess, and grade assigned academic courses in alignment with the school curriculum.
  • Implement and manage student IEP requirements, including direct support and collaboration as necessary.
  • Maintain and submit documentation such as lesson plans, progress reports, and IEP evaluations as required.
  • Oversee and apply behavioral interventions within the classroom setting as needed.
  • Manage and request instructional materials and supplies relevant to the curriculum.
  • Engage in ongoing curriculum development, professional training, and assessment as requested.
  • Participate in mandated professional development opportunities.
  • Supervise teaching assistants in coordination with the Dean of Students and Academic Director.
  • Assist in organizing school field trips.
  • Attend faculty meetings as required.
  • Maintain student confidentiality and communicate pertinent information to supervisors.
  • Follow established communication protocols.
  • Understand the administrative structure and philosophy of Mount Prospect Academy.
  • Represent Mount Prospect Academy positively to the community and stakeholders.

Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Current certification by NHDOE in Special Education, or actively enrolled in a certification program.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a relevant academic field (English, Math, Science, etc.). Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with students diagnosed with emotional disturbances, attention issues, or mental health conditions.
  • Preferred: NH DOE certification/teaching license. Two or more years of experience in general education and/or special education instruction, particularly at the middle and high school levels.
  • Note: Support is available for obtaining certification and developing a professional development plan.
  • Preferred: Two years of experience interacting with youth, including roles such as camp counselor, coach, babysitter, or parent.
