Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Surgery Advanced Practice Professional to join our team at Trinity Health. As a key member of our surgical team, you will provide exceptional patient care and support to our patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Formulate and implement medical plans of care for acute management of all Surgery (inpatient, emergency department, and consult) patients with collaborating physicians.
  • Assist with evaluation and triage of emergency room patients.
  • Provide direct clinical services for surgical patients according to established protocols, using evidence-based practice and clinical practice standards, under the supervision of the collaborating physicians.
  • Perform patient work-up including history and physical examination with ordering of appropriate laboratory tests, x-ray studies and other diagnostic studies as indicated.
  • Operate as a surgical assistant, including endoscopic vein and radial artery harvest, femoral vessel exposure, cannulation and repair, first and second assisting including robotic procedures, opening and closing of incisions as indicated.
  • Transport and initial care of the operative patient in the recovery room with completion of initial orders and brief operative note.
  • Complete daily hospital work rounds including pre and post operations and charting of progress notes as required or as assigned.
  • Dictate discharge summaries, chart rounds, staffing conference summaries and consults as directed by service needs.
  • Participate in the care of off-service patients as indicated by consulting (supervising) physician request.
  • Order appropriate diagnostic and laboratory data under the direction of the supervising physician and communicates results to physicians and other health care providers.
  • Assess changes in patient status and institutes routine and emergency interventions to stabilize patients under the direction of the supervising physician and APP team.
  • Document plan of care and patient progress in medical records and narrative summaries.
  • Evaluate and document patient outcomes and revises the plan under the direction of collaborating physicians in association with other specialty consultants.
  • Help facilitates discharge planning along with patients, families, other members of the health care team and referral agencies.
Requirements
  • NP Education: Master's Degree in clinical nursing from an accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program with emphasis on area of certification/licensure.
  • NP Licensure: Current Registered Nurse and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Michigan.
  • PA Education: Requires graduation from an ARC-PA accredited PA program.
  • PA Licensure: Current License/Certification as Physician Assistant with the State of Michigan.
  • Experience: Surgical experience preferred but we are willing to train the right candidate.
