Position Summary

The Senior Food Safety Quality Assurance Manager is tasked with overseeing the Food Safety Quality Assurance Department. This role involves providing strategic leadership and guidance to ensure the production of safe and high-quality food products within a secure environment, while also focusing on cost management and customer satisfaction. The manager will be responsible for the daily operations of quality and food safety at the Bakkavor facility, ensuring adherence to food safety protocols, compliance with internal and external quality standards, and alignment with customer expectations and regulatory requirements.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with food safety and quality specifications as per customer and regulatory standards, collaborating with various plant departments to enforce these standards.
  • Collaborate with New Product Development to integrate food safety and quality requirements for new products.
  • Oversee the management of non-conforming products, leading cross-functional teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct regular reviews of product documentation to ensure compliance with analytical, sensory, and microbiological standards.
  • Document and address any deviations in HACCP/Food Safety Plans, ensuring corrective actions are executed effectively.
  • Lead investigations into internal product failures and customer feedback, ensuring successful implementation of corrective measures.
  • Drive food safety, quality, and process initiatives to support timely product launches and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Implement and oversee environmental monitoring and sanitation validation programs, analyzing results and enhancing procedures as necessary.
  • Represent the FSQA group during customer visits and third-party audits, maintaining GFSI certification.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies, addressing any issues and liaising with USDA inspectors.
  • Monitor and report on quality and food safety KPIs, escalating issues to senior management as needed.
  • Establish validation and verification programs to ensure the effectiveness of food safety and quality systems.
  • Enhance the reputation of the department and organization by taking ownership of new initiatives and seeking opportunities for value addition.
  • Act as a mentor and role model for team members, upholding the company's ethical standards and values.
  • Inspire and develop the team to meet their potential and align with business succession planning needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role involves managing a team of 5-10 individuals, with responsibilities including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and conflict resolution.

Qualifications

To excel in this position, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the essential duties outlined above. The following qualifications are required:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science or a related field.
  • HACCP and PCQI Certification is mandatory.
  • SQF Practitioner certification is preferred.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years in the ready-to-eat food industry.
  • Experience with GFSI standards is essential.
  • 5 years in a managerial role within FSQA is preferred.
  • Proven track record in leading FSQA operations through significant changes.
  • Experience in FDA and USDA regulated environments is required, with a preference for ready-to-eat experience.

Language Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and regulations.
  • Skilled in writing reports and procedural manuals.
  • Effective presentation skills for diverse audiences.

Food Safety and Quality Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for overseeing the Food Safety & Quality Management Systems within the plant, ensuring the production of safe and high-quality food products, and preventing the distribution of non-compliant products.
