Position Summary

The Senior Food Safety Quality Assurance Manager is tasked with overseeing the Food Safety Quality Assurance Department. This role involves providing leadership and guidance to ensure the production of safe, high-quality food products within a secure environment, while also focusing on cost efficiency and customer satisfaction. The manager will supervise daily quality and food safety operations at the Bakkavor facility, ensuring adherence to food safety protocols, internal and external quality standards, and compliance with regulatory bodies such as the USDA, FDA, and local health authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with stringent food safety and quality specifications, collaborating with various plant departments to uphold these standards.
  • Partner with New Product Development teams to integrate food safety and quality requirements for new offerings.
  • Manage the proper handling and resolution of non-conforming products, leading cross-functional teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct regular reviews of product documentation to ensure compliance with analytical, sensory, and microbiological standards.
  • Document and address any deviations from HACCP/Food Safety Plans, ensuring corrective actions are effectively executed.
  • Lead investigations into internal product failures and customer feedback, ensuring successful implementation of corrective measures.
  • Drive food safety, quality, and process initiatives to facilitate timely product launches and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Oversee environmental monitoring and sanitation validation programs, analyzing results and implementing improvements.
  • Represent the FSQA team during customer visits and third-party audits, maintaining GFSI certification.
  • Act as the primary contact for regulatory agencies, addressing any issues with USDA inspectors.
  • Monitor quality and food safety KPIs, collaborating with management to address any concerns.
  • Establish validation and verification programs to confirm the effectiveness of food safety and quality systems.
  • Enhance the reputation of the department and organization by embracing new challenges and exploring opportunities for value addition.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for team members, upholding the company's ethical standards and values.
  • Inspire and develop the team to reach their potential, ensuring alignment with business needs and succession planning.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role oversees a team of 5-10 individuals, executing supervisory duties in accordance with organizational policies and legal requirements. Responsibilities include recruiting, training, and evaluating staff performance, as well as addressing any workplace issues.

Qualifications

To excel in this position, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are essential:

  • A bachelor's degree in food science or a related field.
  • HACCP and PCQI Certification is mandatory.
  • SQF Practitioner certification is preferred.

Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of 7 years in the ready-to-eat food industry.
  • Experience with GFSI standards is required.
  • At least 5 years in a managerial role within FSQA is preferred.
  • A proven track record of leading FSQA operations through significant changes and growth.
  • Experience in FDA and USDA regulated environments, with a focus on ready-to-eat products.

Language Proficiency:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Proficient in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
  • Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to inquiries from various stakeholders.

Food Safety and Quality Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for overseeing the Food Safety & Quality Management Systems within their designated areas. The Senior FSQA Manager provides guidance to ensure the production of safe and high-quality food, identifying any products that do not meet company standards and preventing their distribution.
