Job Summary

Florida International University is seeking a highly skilled Technical Support Specialist to provide day-to-day consultation, training, and problem-solving services to computer users for hardware, software, network, and related computer systems and peripheral devices.

The ideal candidate will ensure the effective operation of all systems, install and configure systems, recommend hardware and software acquisitions and upgrades, and assist the Assistant Director in providing support for departmental users of Active Directory, SharePoint, and other resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support services to classrooms, computer labs, and users of multiple computer systems throughout the department(s).
  • Research computer hardware options and software applications and inform the director for decision on departmental adoption.
  • Create, test, and deploy computer hard drive images with related software.
  • Work with the University's chosen IT ticketing system to create, track, manage, and report on requests and incidents.
  • Collaborate with security staff members on system security updates.
  • Service computers and peripherals used by faculty for online and by hybrid courses.
  • Provide support for advising center hardware and software to improve student services.
  • Utilize the department's inventory database system to accurately track all departmental assets.
  • Work with FIU-based and external vendors to ensure software licenses are up to date for end users.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience of software design, development, and implementation.
  • Experience working with networking equipment.
  • Experience working with Windows and MAC operating systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with LDAP/Active Directory, system or patch management solutions.
