Overview

Summary/Objective

The Senior Financial Risk Analyst will play a pivotal role in evaluating and underwriting asset-based lending opportunities within the middle-market sector. This position requires leading deal teams, collaborating with Relationship Managers, and providing mentorship to junior analysts. The Senior Financial Risk Analyst must possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills to derive insights that facilitate credit decisions, enhance client interactions, and reduce potential credit losses. Responsibilities include conducting thorough due diligence, performing in-depth collateral assessments, and analyzing financial statements and cash flows.

  • New business - spearhead deal teams to assess new lending opportunities, conduct pre-screening of transactions, perform due diligence, draft credit approval documents for transactions that align with established credit criteria, present transactions to the credit committee for approval, negotiate and review necessary legal documentation, and participate in the closing of deals.
  • Ongoing business - guide deal teams in underwriting credit renewals, extensions, and modifications. Assist in managing assigned portfolio accounts by monitoring performance and compliance with covenants, preparing collateral trend analyses, and conducting periodic reviews. Ensure timely processing of amendments and waiver requests to meet client expectations, provide performance updates to management, and identify warning signals while participating in portfolio reviews as necessary.
  • Analyze collateral data, financial statements, and capital structures; conduct industry and competitor analyses to pinpoint transaction risks and mitigants; recommend appropriate transaction structures; and provide informed recommendations based on due diligence findings.
  • Mentor and train junior analysts within the team.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of company policies, procedures, and underwriting standards.
  • Collaborate with various departments, including Portfolio Reporting and Analysis, Funding, Compliance, Legal, Finance, Risk, and Internal Audit.
  • Develop extensive knowledge of the auto finance and dealership sectors.
  • Engage with clients, including brokers and intermediaries, as needed to facilitate the due diligence process and support relationship management efforts.
Qualifications
  • 5-10 years of credit experience, preferably in commercial lending; must have direct experience in leading the underwriting and execution of senior debt transactions.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
  • Proficient in working with large datasets and databases to extract and convert data into actionable business and credit insights.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and capital structures, with excellent analytical skills and the ability to challenge assumptions. Experience in structuring transactions, leading deal teams, and negotiating documentation is essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; must be a team player.
  • Self-motivated with high energy levels; ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with time management, attention to detail, and organizational capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required; knowledge of SQL is a plus.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This role operates in a professional office setting and routinely utilizes standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time role, with hours and days of work varying based on business needs.

Travel

This position may require up to 20% travel.
