Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Financial Analyst/Staff Accountant II to join our team at SmileMakers. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for supporting the Assistant Controller and/or the Accounting Operations Manager in a variety of financial activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for both internal and external reporting purposes.
  • Subsidiary Financial Statements: Prepare all subsidiary financial statements on a stand-alone basis in accordance with GAAP for internal reporting purposes.
  • Financial Closing Process: Involved in the monthly financial closing process and account reconciliation preparation, focusing primarily on accounts of higher risk and complexity.
  • General Ledger Transactions: Prepare and record general ledger transactions as necessary, including OTC and Mindware.
  • US GAAP Accounting Research: Assist in the analysis of US GAAP accounting guidance research and application to specific accounting issues.
  • Annual Budgeting and Projections: Assist in the annual budgeting/projections and perform actual to variance analysis each month.
  • Account Reconciliation: Assist in the monthly financial closing process and account reconciliation preparation.
  • Problem Resolution: Assist in identification and problem resolution relating to account reconciliations, transaction processing, reporting, and systems issues.
  • Capital Expenditure Reporting: Maintain Capital expenditure reporting on a monthly basis.
  • Acquisition Analysis: Assist in the valuation procedures and purchase accounting analysis related to executed acquisitions by OTC.
  • Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports utilized by senior management in strategic business decision-making.
  • Ad Hoc Projects: Execution of ad hoc project analysis while maintaining normal job responsibilities.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: Two years of experience in general ledger accounting or public accounting, preferred.
  • Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Detailed knowledge of SmileMakers systems, Serenade, and ABS. Knowledge of JD Edwards and IBM Cognos systems a plus.
  • Abilities: Detail-oriented and able to work effectively with others. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Able to identify problems and assist in implementing effective solutions. Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing work environment with a high degree of detail and sense of urgency.
