Position Title: Substitute Teacher

Department: Educational Institution

Employment Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Reports To: Principal's Assistant

Compensation: Based on Qualifications & Experience ($85 - $125 per day)

Position Summary: The Substitute Teacher is responsible for executing the daily instructional plans set forth by the regular classroom teacher. This role is crucial in fostering a learning environment that promotes personal development and academic success while ensuring effective classroom management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Teaching Certification (preferred)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Arrive at the school office at the start of the day to collect necessary materials and class schedules, and return them at the end of the day.
  • Implement the lesson plans provided by the regular teacher.
  • Create a supportive classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning and tailored to the students' developmental levels and interests.
  • Guide students in achieving curriculum objectives as outlined in the lesson plans.
  • Utilize appropriate instructional methods and resources to meet educational goals.
  • Maintain an organized and tidy classroom environment.
  • Record attendance in accordance with school policies.
  • Communicate classroom behavior expectations to students at the beginning of each class.
  • Ensure students are supervised at all times.
  • Perform additional duties typically assigned to the absent teacher, such as lunchroom supervision and hallway monitoring.
  • Be familiar with emergency evacuation procedures for assigned classrooms.
  • Understand and adhere to school policies and regulations.
  • Keep accurate records as mandated by law and school policy.
  • Act as a positive role model for students, demonstrating professionalism through a positive demeanor, respectful communication, and appropriate appearance.
  • Set and communicate high expectations for student performance and behavior.
  • Participate in staff meetings and committees during long-term assignments as required.
  • Exhibit professional conduct at all times.
  • Carry out other tasks as assigned by the administration to support the objectives of the educational institution.
  • Engage with parents as necessary to support student learning.
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction as outlined in daily plans.
  • Support the Mission and Vision of St. Philip's School and Community Center.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents, colleagues, administration, and the School Board.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Engage in extensive mobility, both indoors and outdoors, during school hours and on field trips.
  • Participate in normal physical activities, including occasional bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 35 lbs.
