The Special Education Classroom Instructor will work with students requiring individualized educational support. This role involves close collaboration with students, parents, and educational staff to create tailored Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for each student.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process to develop and implement IEPs.
- Design and execute instructional and therapeutic programs that cater to the unique needs of assigned students.
- Utilize diverse teaching strategies and materials that reflect an understanding of students' learning preferences.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curricula and assist special education students in mainstream classes.
- Regularly participate in ARD Committee meetings and communicate educational programs to the community.
- Consult with colleagues on behavior management strategies in alignment with IEP guidelines.
- Conduct assessments of student progress through various testing methods and maintain accurate records.
- Create a supportive classroom environment that promotes the physical, social, and emotional growth of students.
- Manage classroom behavior and implement disciplinary measures as necessary, following IEP protocols.
- Stay informed and comply with all relevant federal, state, and district regulations regarding special education.
- Maintain consistent attendance at the workplace, as this is essential for fulfilling job responsibilities.
Work Environment:
The classroom setting typically has a moderate noise level, and travel within the district may be required. Remote work is not an option for this position, as on-site presence is crucial.
Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of the ARD process and IEP development.
- General understanding of curriculum design and instructional methods.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with laws and regulations pertaining to special education.
- Ability to produce clear and concise documentation.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with various stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational and communication abilities.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and a valid teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements.
