Position Title: Substitute Teacher

Compensation: Based on Qualifications & Experience ($85 - $125 per day)

Position Summary: The role of the Substitute Teacher is to effectively carry out the daily instructional plans set forth by the regular classroom teacher. This position is essential in fostering a learning environment that promotes personal development and academic growth while establishing a positive rapport with students and maintaining appropriate classroom discipline.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Preferred: Teaching Certification

Key Responsibilities:

  • Arrive at the school office at the start of the day to collect necessary materials and class schedules, and return them at the end of the day, adhering to sign-out protocols as directed by the principal.
  • Implement the prescribed curriculum as outlined in the lesson plans provided by the absent teacher.
  • Establish a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning, tailored to the developmental levels and interests of the students.
  • Guide students towards achieving the educational goals and objectives as specified in the lesson plans for assigned lessons, units, or projects.
  • Utilize instructional strategies and resources that are most effective for meeting lesson objectives.
  • Maintain an organized and tidy classroom environment, ensuring furniture is arranged properly and instructional materials are in order.
  • Take attendance in accordance with school policies.
  • Communicate classroom behavior expectations to students at the beginning of each class, in line with school policies.
  • Ensure that students are supervised at all times during class.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities typically assigned to the absent teacher, such as supervising lunch or monitoring hallways.
  • Be familiar with emergency evacuation procedures for assigned classrooms.
  • Understand and comply with school policies and regulations.
  • Keep accurate records as mandated by law, school policy, and administrative guidelines.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students, exhibiting professionalism through a positive demeanor, respectful communication, and appropriate attire.
  • Maintain high expectations for student performance and behavior.
  • Participate in staff meetings and committees during long-term assignments as required by administration.
  • Exhibit professional conduct at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration or necessary for the effective execution of the school’s goals and objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with parents when necessary.
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction as outlined in daily instructional plans.
  • Support the Mission and Vision of St. Philip's School and Community Center.
  • Present a professional appearance.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents, colleagues, administration, and the School Board.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Requires significant mobility, both indoors and outdoors, during school hours and on field trips.
  • Involves normal physical activities, including some bending, pushing, pulling, and the occasional lifting of items weighing up to 35 lbs.
