Position Overview:

The Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) is dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals, families, and communities across the state. We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to fill the role of Civil Rights Compliance Officer within the Office of Equal Opportunity (OOD).

This pivotal position is responsible for overseeing and ensuring adherence to compliance standards related to public accommodations under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and language access mandates under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. The officer will play a crucial role in assessing and addressing the needs of Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals to guarantee equitable access to department services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with various divisions to create and implement effective tools and best practices for disability and language access.
  • Evaluate and respond to requests for ADA accommodations, while managing complaints regarding ADA and LEP violations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state notification requirements, conducting regular site visits to assess adherence.
  • Develop and maintain the agency's ADA Transition Plan and Language Access Plan, providing annual updates and recommendations for improvement.
  • Compile and disseminate annual reports detailing services provided to individuals with disabilities and LEP.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A comprehensive understanding of laws and regulations related to disability discrimination and equal access.
  • Advanced skills in compliance monitoring and the ability to analyze complex legal issues.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present information effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical abilities to assess data trends and propose actionable solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Possession of an ADA Coordinator Training Certification (ACTCP) is preferred.
