Job Summary

POWER Engineers is seeking a highly skilled Structural Engineer to join our Power Delivery Substation Department in our Portland office. As a Structural Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and developing structural systems for our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Perform all aspects of substation structural design, including preparation of steel performance drawings, fabrication drawings, and foundation design.
  • Specifications and Estimates: Develop steel and concrete construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedules.
  • Code Compliance: Understand and incorporate typical structural code requirements.
  • Discipline Coordination: Coordinate with all disciplines contributing to electrical substation design.
  • Calculation Packages: Prepare calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirements.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients.
  • Project Support: Support Project Manager and Project Engineer with project reporting needs.
  • Proposal Development: Support proposal development.
  • Mentorship: Support the mentorship and training of other team members.
  • Client Standards: Understand and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs.
  • Travel: Occasional travel will be required.
Requirements
  • Education: BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering) degree from an accredited college.
  • Experience: 4 years of structural design experience.
  • Skills: Mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detail.
  • Software Proficiency: Finite Element modeling experience; Risa3D or STAAD Pro.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with structural analysis, concrete design, steel design, soil mechanics, and foundation design.
  • Communication: Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
  • Authorization: Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience: Seven (7) or more years of experience in structural engineering.
  • Seismic Design: Seismic design experience.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with RISA, MathCAD, LPile, and STAAD are beneficial.
  • Professional Certification: Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
  • Professional License: Professional Engineering license (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure and ability to obtain licensure in multiple states.
  • Project Management: Ability to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently and manage budgets and schedules.
