PROPULSION ENGINEER, THERMAL & FLUID ANALYSIS (STARSHIP)

As a propulsion engineer, your role will be crucial in ensuring that fluid consumables are optimally positioned and maintained under the right conditions for the Starship initiative. You will be tasked with making engineering decisions that enhance vehicle performance and reliability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct analysis for each mission on attitude control systems, propellant conditions, and tank pressurization systems to maximize performance while ensuring robustness.
  • Automate workflows to minimize engineering time spent on mission-specific analyses.
  • Focus on enhancing performance and robustness.
  • Strive for operational simplicity and aim to alleviate burdens on other teams within SpaceX.
  • Create comprehensive documentation of your work to decrease error rates and boost efficiency.
  • Evaluate and review the work of peers.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering field.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience utilizing engineering simulation software such as MATLAB (including academic projects and internships).
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Over 2 years of professional experience in thermal or fluid analysis.
  • Deep understanding of spacecraft and/or launch vehicle propulsion systems and fluid components.
  • Experience with 0-D and 1-D thermal/fluid networks.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages, particularly Python.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to meet demanding schedules.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Availability for extended hours and weekends as necessary.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Propulsion Engineer /Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
Propulsion Engineer /Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year

Your specific level and base salary will be determined based on various factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one component of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also qualify for long-term incentives, including company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the opportunity to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short & long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other discounts and perks are also included. Additionally, you will accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays each year. Exempt employees are entitled to 5 days of sick leave annually.
