THERMAL ENGINEER, THERMAL & FLUID ANALYSIS (STARSHIP)

As a Thermal Engineer on the Starship Thermal & Fluids analysis team, you will play a crucial role in the thermal design, testing, and validation of our vehicles and hardware. Your engineering decisions will enhance vehicle performance and reliability, contributing to the development of a fully reusable transportation system for crew and cargo missions to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct thermal design for spacecraft, launch vehicles, and hardware, ranging from initial high-level analysis to performance validation through ground tests and flight data.
  • Automate workflows to minimize engineering effort in mission analysis.
  • Drive improvements in performance and robustness.
  • Streamline operations to alleviate the workload on other teams at SpaceX.
  • Create comprehensive documentation of your work to enhance efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Review and provide feedback on peer work.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience with engineering simulation software, such as MATLAB (including student projects and internships).
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Over 2 years of professional experience in thermal or fluid analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of spacecraft and/or launch vehicle systems.
  • Experience with 0-D and 1-D thermal/fluid networks.
  • Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and/or ANSYS Workbench.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages, particularly Python.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Availability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range:

Thermal Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
Thermal Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis, influenced by job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is part of your total rewards package at SpaceX, which may include long-term incentives, stock options, discretionary bonuses, and additional stock purchase opportunities at a discount. You will also receive comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short & long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other discounts and perks. Additionally, you will accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays each year. Exempt employees are entitled to 5 days of sick leave annually.
