Position Responsibilities:


The Vice President of Finance is accountable for the financial and fiscal management of the organization, acting as a strategic ally in finance, accounting, and actuarial functions.

This role involves leading and shaping financial initiatives, including financial reporting, budgeting, and capital management in collaboration with the Montana Board of Investments.

The Vice President will oversee and manage risks related to capital and resources, ensuring the quality, integrity, and timeliness of necessary reporting while adhering to state and federal laws and policies.

Additionally, they will ensure that adequate controls are established, and that documentation is approved and available for audit purposes, in compliance with GAAP, statutory, and state insurance accounting standards and regulations.

The Vice President will serve as an executive leader, fostering the growth, development, and engagement of the department and the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Oversight: Monitor and provide recommendations regarding organizational revenue and expenditures. Develop and oversee objectives and policies. Ensure the maintenance of facilities and the inventory of fixed assets. Establish realistic goals and implement financial controls to maximize productivity.

Budget Management: Supervise the preparation and implementation of budgets to meet organizational objectives. Set strategic direction for long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with MSF financial goals and projections.

Financial Reporting and Insights: Deliver projections and trend analysis for budgeting, capital management, and financial reporting. Anticipate financial scenarios and provide strategic insights to proactively address them. Communicate finance and actuarial insights to the executive team, leadership, employees, and board of directors as appropriate. Engage leadership on critical issues, trends, and changes in operational models and delivery.

Leadership Development: Support organizational directives through effective business leadership, emphasizing customer focus, strategic insights, and interdepartmental collaboration. Provide vision, direction, leadership, and support for the finance and actuarial departments. Direct and lead the controller, finance/accounting team, and actuarial team in alignment with MSF mission, vision, and values. Champion projects and initiatives, providing coaching and support to engage and empower the department and organization.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Essential:


A Master's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field
AND at least 10 years of experience in a senior finance leadership role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.



Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in workers' compensation insurance
CPA or other relevant professional certifications
