Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents. As a LPN, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to our patients.

Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse will be responsible for providing age-specific nursing care and medication management to child and adolescent psychiatric patients in a safe and therapeutic environment. This includes dispensing, administering, and documenting the use of medication in patient charts, as well as ensuring medication rooms are properly stocked.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide medication management, including dispensing, administering, and documenting use of medication in patient charts
  • Ensure medication rooms are properly stocked
  • Work closely with other members of a multidisciplinary treatment team to provide collaborative trauma-informed psychiatric care to assigned patients
  • Assist RNs with monitoring patients, documenting charts, and ensuring a safe and therapeutic milieu
  • Supervise PNAs and serve as a positive role model
  • Assist with admissions and discharges and provide patient and family education, particularly with regards to medications
  • Support and work collaboratively with Direct Care Staff, including working direct care to provide necessary breaks to PNAs and sitting 1:1 when necessary
Requirements:
  • Current, Virginia license to practice as a LPN or license eligible; multistate compact endorsement is accepted
  • Knowledge of illness and treatment modalities to include medication administration
  • Ability to implement nursing care plan and provide guidance to other staff
  • Ability to delegate and supervise nursing staff
  • Effective communication (written, verbal and sign)
  • Ability to participate in interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care
  • Ability to work overtime due to staffing emergencies in a 24 hour 7 day per week psychiatric hospital
  • Must complete all annual competency training to include Therapeutic Options
  • Must complete and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers with the American Heart Association
  • Demonstrates knowledge of recovery/trauma informed care
