Job Summary:The Licensed Practical Nurse will be responsible for providing age-specific nursing care and medication management to child and adolescent psychiatric patients in a safe and therapeutic environment. This includes dispensing, administering, and documenting the use of medication in patient charts, as well as ensuring medication rooms are properly stocked.
Responsibilities:- Provide medication management, including dispensing, administering, and documenting use of medication in patient charts
- Ensure medication rooms are properly stocked
- Work closely with other members of a multidisciplinary treatment team to provide collaborative trauma-informed psychiatric care to assigned patients
- Assist RNs with monitoring patients, documenting charts, and ensuring a safe and therapeutic milieu
- Supervise PNAs and serve as a positive role model
- Assist with admissions and discharges and provide patient and family education, particularly with regards to medications
- Support and work collaboratively with Direct Care Staff, including working direct care to provide necessary breaks to PNAs and sitting 1:1 when necessary
- Current, Virginia license to practice as a LPN or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement is accepted
- Knowledge of illness and treatment modalities to include medication administration
- Ability to implement nursing care plan and provide guidance to other staff
- Ability to delegate and supervise nursing staff
- Effective communication (written, verbal and sign)
- Ability to participate in interdisciplinary team
- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care
- Ability to work overtime due to staffing emergencies in a 24 hour 7 day per week psychiatric hospital
- Must complete all annual competency training to include Therapeutic Options
- Must complete and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers with the American Heart Association
- Demonstrates knowledge of recovery/trauma informed care
- Shift differentials ranging from $2.50 to $4.00
